Outrage as Spanish-Nigerian footballer, Samu Omorodion, drops his surname and takes his mother’s last name

Samu Omorodion has revealed plans to drop his surname and take his mother’s last name.

He is now to be known as Samu Aghehowa, after his mother.

Samu told Mundo Deportivo: “Everything I do is for her, so that she feels proud of me. She is the most important woman in my life, she has helped me at all times.

“She has a fundamental role, she is the pillar of my life, without her I don’t know what I would do.”

“My Spain call up? Before I called her to tell her, they had already told her. She started crying, I am also very happy for her and very proud of everything I am doing and of being able to offer it to her.”

Euro Foot announced the decision on X and Nigerians took to the comment section to express outrage. Many accused his mother of alienating him from his father. Others defended him and asked the role his father has played in his journey.
